Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) said on Sunday that he would support the House select committee investigating the Jan 6. Capitol riot in issuing subpoenas to Republican members of Congress.

Driving the news: Kinzinger told ABC's "This Week" that he would be in favor of issuing subpoenas to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

  • "I would support subpoenas to anybody that can shed light on that, if that's the leader that's the leader," Kinzinger said, adding that he wants to hear from anyone who spoke with former President Donald Trump on Jan. 6.
  • "I would expect to see a significant number of subpoenas for a lot of people," he added.

State of play: Kinzinger and Rep. Liz Cheney (R.-Wyo.) are the sole Republicans serving on the House select committee.

  • Jordan was initially selected by McCarthy to serve on the select committee, but his appointment was rejected by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, prompting McCarthy to pull all his picks from the committee.

The Jan. 6 select committee issued a subpoena to Jeffrey Clark, a former Justice Department official who reportedly helped former President Donald Trump amplify false claims around the election.

Why it matters: The announcement comes on the heels of a report by the Senate Judiciary Committee that detailed the extent of Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland will testify before the House Judiciary Committee next Thursday, according to a notice of the oversight hearing obtained by Axios.

Why it matters: This will be the first time Garland has appeared before the panel. The hearing comes as the Justice Department faces a series of contentious issues, including enforcement of the Jan. 6 committee's subpoenas, the crackdown on Texas' new abortion law, the overflowing of migrants at the border, voting rights and more.

Members of the Food and Drug Administration's vaccine expert panel on Friday unanimously endorsed a booster shot for adult recipients of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine at least two months after the initial dose.

Why it matters: The advisory committee raised concerns about a dearth of data to support their decision but ultimately decided to support an additional shot for those over 18.
