Judge to hear Nov. 4 oral arguments for Trump's executive privilege claim

A Nov. 4 hearing has been set for former President Trump's claim of executive privilege in regard to the House Jan. 6 select committee's investigation, Reuters reports.

Why it matters: Trump's legal team has moved to block some of the committee's requests for records by invoking executive privilege, which can allow presidents and their aides to sidestep congressional scrutiny.

Former Trump strategist Steve Bannon also claimed executive privilege in his refusal to comply with a subpoena from the panel.
The House of Representatives voted on Thursday to hold Bannon in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with the subpoena.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has signed off an agreement by Trump and the committee to expedite the case for a Nov. 4 hearing on oral arguments, according to Reuters.
