Independent candidates get a boost at the state level

Elected officials who aren't Democrats or Republicans are rare, but Unite America is trying to change that by endorsing 19 independent candidates for state legislature today.

Why it matters: Independent candidates usually don't have the same campaign resources and money as the two major parties. But the group, formerly known as the Centrist Project, will provide things like a grassroots network of volunteers and donor contributions to boost these candidates.
