Americans are more pessimistic than ever before about their kids' financial future, according to new data from the Pew Research Center.

The big picture: It's not just America. A majority in almost all of the 17 countries surveyed by Pew thinks kids will be worse off financially. It's been that way since at least 2013.

Details: The majority of Americans — across the political spectrumare downbeat about their kids' financial future.

  • But views among Republicans saw the biggest shift: Over three-quarters are now pessimistic, a 40-point jump since last year.

Background: Check out the chart below. Views about the economy are sunnier in most countries compared to this time last year — though many are far from their pre-pandemic high.

  • Just two nations saw a slight decline: the United States and Spain.

The intrigue: Those who are negative about the current state of the economy are more likely to say their kids will be worse off in the future.

Data: Brookings Institution, United States Senate; Chart: Connor Rothschild/Axios

Like their Senate colleagues, House members are spending more days in session than past congresses — but far fewer hours per day on average, according to data from the Brookings Institution and the U.S. Senate.

Why it matters: The Senate may have come to an agreement on the bipartisan infrastructure package on Wednesday, but it still faces chaos in the House — and threatens to cut short representatives’ August recess late next month.

The district attorneys for Manhattan and Westchester County on Wednesday requested evidence related to New York Attorney General Letitia James' investigation into sexual harassment allegations against Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), according to a letter obtained by NBC News.

Why it matters: The district attorneys are investigating if alleged conduct highlighted in an independent report published by James' office that occurred in their jurisdictions was criminal in nature.

Why it matters: The company has been quietly building a roster of top talent, but hadn't confirmed its branding or exact business plans up until now.
