A memorial dedicated to Gabby Petito near City Hall in North Port, Fla. Photo: Octavio Jones/Getty Images

A body found in Teton County, Wyoming, on Sunday was confirmed to be the remains of missing 22-year-old blogger Gabby Petito, the FBI announced Tuesday.

Driving the news: The death was ruled a homicide by the Teton County coroner's office, the FBI said. The cause of death has not been determined.

  • "The FBI and our partners remain dedicated to ensuring anyone responsible for or complicit in Ms. Petito's death is held accountable for their actions," FBI Denver special agent Michael Schneider said in a press release.
  • Petito's missing fiancé, Brian Laundrie, remains a person of interest in the case. Anyone with information about his role or whereabouts should contact the authorities, per the FBI.

Catch up quick: Petito was documenting her road trip through Western national parks using the #vanlife hashtag on social media. Her family filed a missing persons report on Sept. 11 with police in Suffolk County, New York.

  • The last known communications with Petito happened on Aug. 30.
  • Laundrie is the last known person to have seen Petito, and he hasn't been seen since last week. Authorities spent the weekend searching Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County, Florida, after Laundrie's parents said that was his last known location.

Hillsborough schools keep masks, ditch doctor's notes

At a meeting last night, Hillsborough County School board members voted to extend its mask policy without requiring parents to provide medical documents for their children to opt-out.

Why it matters: The county school system's case count dropped significantly through September. The 519 student and teacher cases reported on Sept. 7 fell to just 15 cases on Tuesday.

  • Sarasota County announced Sunday that it is changing to a masks-optional policy for students, after that county's cases also dropped.

Five years after Wanda Faye Walker disappeared in Nashville, the FBI is stepping in to offer a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

  • Walker was last seen on Oct. 4, 2016. She was 60 at the time. Her abandoned car was found near her 11th Avenue South home with her blood inside.

Obama says Powell exemplified what America "can and should be"

Former President Obama called Colin Powell an "exemplary soldier and an exemplary patriot" in a statement honoring the former general following his death from COVID-19 complications on Monday.

Why it matters: Powell, the first Black U.S. secretary of state, was known as a Republican but played a critical role in helping Obama get elected in 2008.
