Death toll from Indonesia earthquake surpasses 1,200

At least 1,200 people have been killed in the aftermath of Indonesia's earthquake and tsunami, with hundreds more injured and missing, reports the AP.

The big picture: Northern Indonesia was struck by a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake on Friday, followed by a tsunami in Palu, a city with a population of about 335,000. The European Union, China and the United States have offered assistance to the Indonesian government, per the AP.
