Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office on Thursday said it would cooperate with the state Assembly's request for evidence as part of its impeachment investigation, Politico reports.

Why it matters: Cuomo has denied the findings of an independent report from the New York Attorney General investigating sexual harassment allegations against him.

Background: The New York State Assembly's Judiciary Committee on Thursday told Cuomo that the impeachment probe had almost concluded.

  • The Assembly gave Cuomo until Aug. 13 to share any additional evidence he wishes them to consider before arriving at a verdict.

What they're saying: "The Assembly has said it is doing a full and thorough review of the complaints and has offered the Governor and his team an opportunity to present facts and their perspective,” Cuomo spokesperson Rich Azzopardi said in a statement, per Politico.

  • "The Governor appreciates the opportunity. We will be cooperating," he continued.

What to watch: The committee is slated to meet on Aug. 9, where members will decide what the next steps will be.

Myanmar will not address UN General Assembly after compromise

No official representing Myanmar will address the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, a reversal of what was previously scheduled, Reuters reports.

Why it matters: The last-minute compromise comes amid competing claims for the country's U.N. seat after a military coup last February ousted Myanmar's democratically elected government from power.

  • The decision comes after the U.S., China and Russia reached an agreement in which Myanmar’s U.N. ambassador, Kyaw Moe Tun, could stay in his position for the time being so long as he did not address the gathering, per Reuters.

The big picture: Kyaw Moe Tun, an appointee of the toppled government, was scheduled to speak before the assembly Monday, but no longer appears on the lineup, per the New York Times.

  • "I withdrew from the speaker list, and will not speak at this general debate," Kyaw Moe Tun told Reuters.

Of note: Afghanistan is also now subject to competing claims to its U.N. seat.

  • Earlier this week, the Taliban nominated a new envoy, Mohammad Suhail Shaheen, and asked to address the assembly in place of the current accredited ambassador Ghulam Isaczai, an appointee of the previous government.
  • When a UN seat is disputed, the General Assembly's nine-member Credentials Committee is tasked with making a decision, but the group has not been able to meet and discuss the issue in time, per the Times.
  • "For now, the Afghanistan representative inscribed on the list for Monday is Mr. Ghulam M. Isaczai," Dujarric told Reuters.

U.S. releases updated vaccination, testing rules for foreign travelers

Foreign travelers will be allowed entry to the U.S. beginning Nov. 8 if they can provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination with a shot authorized by the World Health Organization and a negative test within three days of departure, the White House announced Monday.

Why it matters: The updated guidance, which exempts children under the age of 18 from the vaccine requirement, is intended to provide further clarity for airlines and foreign nationals who have been restricted from traveling to the U.S. since early 2020.
