A stack of COVID-19 Vaccination Record Cards from the CDC. Photo: Ben Hasty/MediaNews Group/Reading Eagle via Getty Images

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has warned states in recent weeks to remove templates of vaccination cards from the web due to forgery concerns, NBC News reports.

Driving the news: Posts and comments in online anti-vaccination and conspiracy forums have included instructions on how to create fake vaccination cards using the online templates.

  • Some of the instructions include guidance on how thick the cardboard paper being used should be, and how to create convincing stick-on labels, according to NBC.

The big picture: While the federal government has indicated that it won't mandate vaccine passports, many universities, colleges and businesses will likely require proof of vaccination for those returning to campuses and offices.

  • By and large, many institutions will rely on people showing their paper CDC cards as proof that they received a COVID-19 vaccine, per NBC.

What they're saying: "CDC has consistently advised states not to post the vaccine card template publicly," Kate Grusich, CDC spokesperson, said in a statement, according to NBC.

Minneapolis, St. Paul city buildings join list of places requiring masks

A growing number of institutions and companies in the Twin Cities are once again requiring masks amid increasing infections and concerns about the Delta variant.

What's happening: Minnesota, local counties and cities haven't enacted any new mandates for private businesses, but organizations are again taking matters into their own hands. Those requiring people to mask up indoors — in accordance with last week's guidance from the CDC — now include:

Businesses
Colleges, universities and schools
Local government buildings
Medical centers

Meanwhile, First Ave and its sister venues will require proof of vaccination, or a negative COVID test taken in the prior 72 hours.

  • University of Thomas will also mandate shots for students and staff.

The big picture: While we've seen a very small number of "breakthrough" cases among the vaccinated, state officials say the vast majority of serious illnesses are occurring among those without a shot.

  • Just 1% of fully vaccinated Minnesotans have tested positive. An even smaller share — 0.016% — have been hospitalized, per MinnPost's Greta Kaul.

University of Minnesota vaccine policy faces pushback

Data: Axios research; Table: Axios Visuals

Nearly a dozen Minnesota colleges are now mandating COVID-19 shots ahead of the fall semester — but the state's largest university isn't one of them.

Driving the news: University of St. Thomas and the College of St. Benedict/St. John's University announced this week that they'll join a growing list of higher education institutions requiring the shots.

  • The University of Minnesota, meanwhile, isn't mandating the vaccines for its 50,000 students and thousands of staff here in the Twin Cities, or at its other four campuses statewide.
  • Neither will the 30-plus schools that make up the Minnesota State system at this time.

White House unveils plan to "quickly" vaccinate kids ages 5-11

The White House on Wednesday released its plan to vaccinate children between the ages of 5 and 11, pending authorization from the Food and Drug Administration of the first COVID-19 shot for that age group.

The big picture: The White House said it has secured enough vaccine supply to equip more than 25,000 pediatric and primary care offices, hundreds of school and community health clinics, as well as tens of thousands of pharmacies to administer the shots.
