1 big thing: Trump Jr. hires a new lawyer
Donald Trump Jr. has retained defense attorney Alan Futerfas, who opened his own firm in 1994, to represent him on issues relating to the Russia probe, per a Karen Freifeld scoop for Reuters.
His statements since this morning, delivered via Twitter:
- "Obviously I'm the first person on a campaign to ever take a meeting to hear info about an opponent... went nowhere but had to listen."
- "No inconsistency in statements, meeting ended up being primarily about adoptions. In response to further Q's I simply provided more details."
- And in response to Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) calling on him to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee: "Happy to work with the committee to pass on what I know."
And at the White House, deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the "the only thing inappropriate" about the meeting is "the people who leaked" details.
