The chairman of House Republicans' campaign arm, Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), joined the lengthy list of Republicans who've lost their reelection bids, AP projects.

Why it matters: The man tasked with preserving House Republicans' majority couldn't save his own seat, in a stunning indictment of the GOP's campaign operation.

As chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, Hudson spent the past four years leading his party's' efforts to defend their razor-thin House majority, raising hundreds of millions of dollars and helping direct the party's campaign strategy across the country.

President Trump carried the district by 16 points in 2024.

Flashback: The last chair of either party's House campaign arm to lose reelection was Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.) in 2022.

Maloney lost his seat to Republican Mike Lawler.
Maloney defeat came even as Democrats outperformed expectations nationally.
