Whether you crave horror, thriller, comedy or sci-fi this weekend, there's a new streaming pick for you.
Carrie — Limited series available now on Prime Video
- Mike Flanagan's ("The Haunting of Hill House") adaptation of Stephen King's novel follows Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), a sheltered teen who faces a viral bullying scandal at her new school and discovers telekinetic powers.
- Catch up quick: King's novel has inspired three direct screen adaptations, as well as a 1988 Broadway musical and 1999 sequel.
Disclosure Day — Steven Spielberg film begins streaming Friday on Peacock
- A Kansas City meteorologist (Emily Blunt) and a cybersecurity whistleblower (Josh O'Connor) race to reveal evidence of extraterrestrial life and a decadeslong cover-up. The film opened in theaters over the summer.
- What he's saying: Nearly 50 years after "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," Spielberg told "CBS Sunday Morning" he believes extraterrestrials exist and that this is his "science fiction summation movie."
Small Prophets — British comedy series available now on Apple TV
- Seven years after his partner Clea disappears, Michael Sleep (Pearce Quigley) follows an alchemy recipe given to him by his father to create magical spirits that can predict the future.
- What they're saying: The series premiered on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer in the U.K. in February, earning praise from critics including The Guardian, which called it "pure, pure pleasure."
Animals — Thriller available Friday on Netflix
- When their son is kidnapped, a Los Angeles mayoral candidate (Ben Affleck) and his wife (Kerry Washington) scramble to raise the ransom, exposing choices that could destroy their family and his political future.
- Behind the scenes: Affleck directs and stars in the thriller, which he co-wrote. The cast includes Gillian Anderson and Steven Yeun.
Abbott Elementary — Season 6 available Thursday on Hulu
- The Philadelphia teachers return to overcrowded classrooms and changing responsibilities, with Gregory (Tyler James Williams) stepping into his new role as assistant principal.
- By the numbers: The comedy, which earned 37 Emmy nominations and four wins, will reach its 100th episode this season.
