Precision Strategies has named DGA's Adam Cubbage as its first CEO, Axios exclusively reports.
Why it matters: For a firm built by political strategists, hiring a CEO with operating and business-building experience is a notable signal about where it wants to go next.
The big picture: The move comes six months after Precision acquired Republican-founded Firehouse Strategies to create what Axios' Mike Allen called a "bipartisan public-affairs powerhouse."
- Cubbage is charged with scaling the firm and expanding its strategic communications, corporate advisory, and crisis and litigation support practices.
- Precision secured an investment from private equity firm Abry Partners in 2023 as it sought to accelerate growth across its services, technology and data capabilities.
- Since the Firehouse deal, co-founder Stephanie Cutter had served as acting CEO as well as managing partner. She remains managing partner and co-founder Teddy Goff remains chief growth officer.
Zoom in: Cubbage joined what was then Dentons Global Advisors in 2020 and was part of the small executive team that built and launched its global advisory platform the following year.
- He most recently led DGA's Americas business and sat on its global executive committee, overseeing businesses spanning strategic communications, U.S. government relations, energy and business intelligence.
- During his tenure, DGA grew into a firm with more than 300 employees across 13 offices, according to Precision's statement.
What they're saying: "Adam is widely respected for his strategic focus not only in building businesses, but providing the high-level counsel our clients need in the U.S. and across the world to navigate constantly shifting challenges," Cutter said.
- "That combination of skills will help us grow our footprint in new markets and expand our expertise across sectors," she said.
- "Clients choose Precision when the stakes are highest, and they need a firm that knows how to win," said Cubbage.
