Stellantis recalls 1 million Jeep vehicles: "Overheating" can trigger fire

Zoom in: The automaker is recalling about 788,000 Jeep Wrangler SUVs and about 289,000 Jeep Gladiator pickups, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

• The recall covers certain vehicles from the 2021 through 2025 model years.
• The problem stems from an electrical connection in the power steering that can lead to "overheating of combustible materials" and potential fires, according to the NHTSA document.
• 0.1% of vehicles in the recall are estimated to be affected by the defect.

Threat level: Stellantis said it had identified 72 reported incidents, with 35 of those "confirmed to originate" from the electrical issue.

• The company said it was aware of one injury and no accidents "potentially" related to the defect.

What's next: The automaker advised owners to park away from buildings and other cars until dealers can fix the vehicles for free.
