Maggie Mitchell has joined AI advertising solutions company Moloco as its first head of communications, Axios is first to report.
Why it matters: Mitchell will build the team that helps explain how AI can support the ad business as Moloco eyes an IPO.
Catch-up quick: Before joining Moloco, Mitchell served as senior vice president, head of communications at SiriusXM. She also spent several years at NBCUniversal supporting corporate communications and advertising partnerships.
- Earlier in her career, Mitchell held comms positions at Viacom and Launchsquad.
State of play: She will report to Moloco chief marketing officer Paul D'Arcy and will oversee the global team responsible for executive, internal, and external communications.
What she's saying: "Moloco has quietly and without ego or notoriety built up a powerful, profitable, rapidly growing business that is creating real impact for its customers by democratizing access to the tools and technology that moves brands," Mitchell told Axios.
- "Telling the story of AI and advertising technology — two notoriously complex areas of business — in a way that clearly and simply highlights the business's strengths and differentiators is a real challenge, and it's a challenge that is tailor-made for a strong communications team."
The big picture: The advertising industry is turning to AI to help with media buying, ad creation and audience mapping.
What to watch: Mitchell will continue to build out the communications teams in the weeks ahead, she told Axios.
- The age of AI presents "an opportunity to build a future-proof team that is stronger, leaner, and more focused on the things that matter," said Mitchell.
