Tickets to Super Bowl LX are suddenly a little more affordable — but it'll still cost you a bundle to catch the big game in person.
Why it matters: Even though prices for tickets and accommodations tend to drop as game day approaches, they could still cost a small fortune.
By the numbers: As of Monday, the cheapest ticket price for the NFL's biggest game at Levi's Stadium outside San Francisco was $4,399 on ticket seller TickPick — down 28% from $6,152 last Thursday.
- Between the lines: Aside from timing, an increase in ticket inventory and a lack of star power on the field are among the factors in the price drop.
Yes, but: Monday's average purchase price was $8,016, still ranking as the second most expensive Super Bowl on record.
Context: At the same venue 10 years ago, Levi's Stadium, Super Bowl tickets sold for $4,233 on average, according to Vivid Seats.
The intrigue: New England Patriots fans seem more willing to go to the game than Seattle Seahawks fans — twice as many Super Bowl ticket purchases are coming from Massachusetts as from Washington, according to TickPick.
- And "with the game being cross-country for Patriots fans, airfare and hotel costs come into play," Brett Goldberg, co-CEO at TickPick, tells Axios. So fans might continue to wait for ticket prices to drop before they purchase.
Stunning stat: The biggest purchase on the platform so far was $48,154 — the cost of two tickets in Section C137, Row 23, for $24,077 a ticket.
The average nightly hotel rates in Santa Clara, where Levi's Stadium is located, are hovering around $415, according to Hotels.com.
- The lodging platform reports that two- and three-star hotels nearby are charging up to 10x their normal rates.
Some of the highest hotel rates nearby for Feb. 7–9 (including taxes and fees) as of Jan. 26:

- Extended Stay America Suites San Jose Milpitas McCarthy Ranch: 3 miles from the stadium; $1,143/night, $2,286 total.
