Progresso brings back its viral Soup Drops candy

Driving the news: The cans go on sale at 9am ET Thursday with additional drops every Thursday through the end of January, while supplies last.

• The $2.97 bundle — available exclusively at Walmart.com — includes the variety can with individually wrapped Soup Drops, a can of Progresso chicken noodle soup and free shipping for Walmart+ members.
• Last January, Progresso's first Soup Drops in chicken noodle flavor sold out in minutes, the General Mills brand said.

Dig in: The variety can includes chicken noodle, tomato basil and beef pot roast drops that Progresso says "deliver a feeling of warmth in your mouth."

• This year's first batch of Soup Drops sold out in two hours, Progresso told Axios.

Kelly's taste test: Progresso gave Axios an early taste of the Soup Drops and I tried the chicken noodle flavor, which gave bouillon cube vibes.

• It's not for me — but who am I to yuck someone else's yum. It also might be the perfect gift for a soup-loving friend.

The bottom line: Brands keep leaning into novelty food drops — often scarce, weird and online-only — to grab attention.
