Bipartisan communications firm Seven Letter has brought on Brandon Shaw as partner and head of its newly launched entertainment practice based in Los Angeles, Axios is first to report.
Why it matters: This hiring comes as the entertainment industry navigates consolidation and contentious M&A activity.
What they're saying: "If you're telling the story of The Walt Disney Company, all the things going on in D.C. are increasingly important," Shaw tells Axios.
- "Over the past five or six years, people in Hollywood have started to care about what's happening in D.C., more than ever, and so it makes sense to have people who can speak that language," he added.
Catch up quick: Prior to joining Seven Letter, Shaw consulted for several production companies, networks, streamers and high-profile individuals.
- As part of the hiring, Seven Letter will absorb Shaw's current client list. In return, they will be able to tap into Seven Letter's insights services, public affairs advisory, and content and podcast production.
- Shaw previously served as vice president of communications for Disney Entertainment Television and vice president of global corporate communications for WME.
Zoom in: In addition to the new Los Angeles office, the firm also announced the establishment of new offices in New York City and Huntsville, Alabama, with experts based full-time in each.
- Marley Hambourger has been tapped as paid media strategist and director at Seven Letter based in New York, Holly Jackson will join the firm's Huntsville office as a senior director, and Camille Cherney has been hired to continue the growth of the Seven Letter's Boston-based team.
- Seven Letter partner Casey Hernandez will join Shaw in heading up the LA office.
What to watch: Seven Letter's corporate communications business has grown nearly 500% in revenue over the past three years, according to a spokesperson.
- Shaw's hiring paired with Seven Letter's geographic expansion signal that the firm is doubling down on that practice.
