Lockheed plans to triple output of coveted Patriot interceptors

Lockheed Martin plans to more than triple its annual production of advanced Patriot missile interceptors under an agreement struck with the Pentagon.

Why it matters: Air defense demand across the world — in Ukraine, Europe, the Middle East — often outstrips output.

The pinch is especially felt at the higher end of the spectrum, where interceptors cost millions of dollars a pop and stockpiles take months or years to replenish.

The latest: Under a seven-year framework revealed Tuesday, Lockheed will increase PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement production from about 600 a year to 2,000.

Exact details are still being negotiated. The effort also hinges on congressional approval.

Flashback: The U.S. Army in its fiscal 2026 budget blueprint increased its acquisition goal for PAC-3 MSE to almost 14,000 — nearly quadruple the previous level. Actual supply falls a long way short of that.
