Powerball's second-largest jackpot of the year grew again after no one matched all the numbers in Monday's drawing.
Why it matters: The jackpot for the Dec. 17 drawing has climbed to an estimated $1.25 billion, with a cash value of $572.1 million before taxes.
- It's the sixth-largest Powerball prize ever and sets "a game record for most consecutive drawings in a single jackpot cycle," lottery officials said.

- Courier apps such as Jackpocket, Lotto.com and Jackpot.com buy tickets on behalf of players in approved states and provide a scanned copy.
Zoom out: Online sales remain limited by state rules and some states only allow in-person ticket purchases.

The deadline to purchase tickets for Monday's drawing varies by state because Powerball tickets are sold by individual lotteries.
- The cutoff times are typically one to two hours before the drawing, according to Powerball.

How it works: Lottery players can pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers — five different numbers from 1 to 69 (the white balls) and one number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball.
- "Quick Pick" or "Easy Pick" tickets can also be purchased where numbers are selected automatically.
- Powerball tickets are $2 per play but for an extra $1 per play you can add the Power Play feature to "multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times."
