D.C. National Guard shooting suspect charged with murder, other felonies

• The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, pleaded not guilty to four charges from his hospital bed, including first-degree murder, assault with intent to kill and two counts of possessing a firearm during a crime of violence. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.
• U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro previously said Lakanwal, will likely face other charges.

What they're saying: "This animal, who attacked two great American patriots, was allowed into our country thanks to Joe Biden's dangerous policies," White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told Axios. "Now he will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Catch up quick: Lakanwal, who entered the U.S. through a program for vulnerable allies who aided U.S. forces, is accused of shooting National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, who later died from her injuries.

• The other victim, Andrew Wolfe, is still hospitalized but reportedly showing signs of improvement.
• In the aftermath of the shooting, Attorney General Pam Bondi threatened to seek the death penalty.
