SpaceX could go public "at some point," Elon Musk says

Driving the news: Musk said Thursday during Tesla's annual shareholder meeting that he's been weighing ways for SpaceX supporters to invest in the company.

• "I do want supporters to have SpaceX stock," he said.
• "Maybe at some point SpaceX should become a public company despite all the downsides of being public," he added.

Reality check: Musk noted that federal securities law limits the number of shareholders a private company can have before it becomes subject to additional reporting requirements like a publicly traded company.

• The current threshold is triggered when a company has more than $10 million in assets and exceeds 2,000 stockholders or 500 non-accredited investors.

The intrigue: Investment app Robinhood recently said it would make tokens of privately held stocks — including SpaceX — available to eligible European customers, Axios Crypto author Brady Dale reported.
