Exclusive: Photography service Snappr launches in Europe after raising $28M

Snappr has expanded its visual content platform, along with its network of photographers, to Europe after raising a Series B round, CEO Matt Schiller exclusively tells Axios.
Why it matters: The expansion underscores rising demand for high-quality original content and blends human creativity with AI efficiency.
How it works: Snappr connects individuals and businesses with professional photographers and editors. The platform helps with managing and editing visual assets, and it can also generate AI-enhanced images that align with brand guidelines.
- "We have brands that have done hundreds of thousands of shoots with us," Schiller says. "They have particular needs and specs, [and] we have an app that creators can use to access the brand guidelines live while they're on a shoot."
- The platform is now available in 57 new cities. As part of its European launch, it now supports five additional languages: French, Italian, Spanish, German and Dutch.
- Clients include Instacart, DoorDash, Zumper and Redfin.
Catch up quick: Schiller launched Snappr in Australia in 2016 as a consumer platform for booking photographers. It was part of Y Combinator in 2017 and now employs more than 250 people, with about 20 based at its San Francisco office.
Follow the money: Snappr raised $28 million in Series B funding. Foundry led and was joined by Basis Set Ventures, Shrug and Yes VC. The startup previously raised $14 million.
- Foundry partner Chris Moody says his firm was drawn to Snappr's "photography as a service" model along with its tech and customer satisfaction.
- "Consumer companies know that great content is a requirement to drive growth," Moody says. "The bar for high ROI content just keeps getting higher. However, very few companies have the technology and resources to deliver professional photography at scale."
The big picture: Snappr's model reflects a growing shift in the creator economy. Businesses are turning to hybrid platforms to meet increased demands for creative and maintain brand consistency globally.
- "A big differentiator ... [of] our AI image gen products is that all of them have a creator in the loop," Schiller says. "You're not just buying unfiltered unvetted outputs of a model. We basically guarantee clients that every image they get is like 100% usable."
What's next: Schiller says the funding will go toward product development, new AI capabilities and international expansion.
