A new shrimp-boat-themed playground is coming to the lakefront in Metairie.
The big picture: Jefferson Parish Councilman Hans Liljeberg and other officials broke ground Friday on the $1.8 million playground at Bucktown Harbor.
- Construction should be done in the spring, says Michelle Gonzales, director of the parish's ecosystem and coastal management department.
- The parish is funding 46% of the project. The Land and Water Conservation Fund is paying for the rest.
- It's part of a $15 million revitalization of the Bucktown lakefront, including the boardwalk, living shoreline and kayak launch.
What's next: The parish is working on a multipurpose pavilion and boat slips in the harbor for visitors.
