Roblox removes "over 100 experiences" tied to Charlie Kirk shooting

Driving the news: Roblox removed dozens of in-game "experiences" in the last 24 hours after "seeing violative content around Charlie Kirk," a company spokesperson tells Axios in a statement.

• An "experience" in Roblox is a custom game created by users, the spokesperson says.
• Roblox says its guidelines prohibit "content and behavior that re-enacts specific real-world violent or sensitive events or promotes terrorism or hatred against individuals or groups."
• "When users are found in violation of our Community Standards, we will take swift action to protect the safety and civility of our community," the spokesperson said.

Flashback: Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) posted on X Thursday that she was notified of a Roblox game "referencing the assassination of Charlie Kirk" and asked Apple to remove Roblox from the app store if the content wasn't immediately pulled.

• About an hour later, Luna said there was "full cooperation" from Roblox and other social media platforms she contacted about violent content.
• Luna worked as Kirk's director of Hispanic engagement at Turning Point USA and was involved in the chaos on the House floor Wednesday night after Kirk's shooting.

Zoom out: Some social media companies moved to curb the surge of graphic content related to Kirk's death that quickly went viral.

• Bluesky's safety page warned against "glorifying violence," saying that celebrating death violates community guidelines.
• YouTube is "closely monitoring" its platform and "prominently elevating news content on the homepage," a spokesperson says. The company is removing graphic content related to Kirk's death, and some videos will be age-restricted.
• Reps for Meta and YouTube did not respond to Axios' request for comment Thursday afternoon.
