Larry Ellison on track for $88B gain, biggest wealth surge in history

There's rich, there's very rich, there's incomprehensibly rich, and then there's the day Oracle chairman Larry Ellison is poised to have.

The big picture: After Oracle offered a growth forecast that stunned investors, Ellison is poised to make more Wednesday than any human being likely has ever made in one day.

By the numbers: As of 7am ET, Oracle shares were up $75.77 in premarket trading.

Ellison owns about 1.16 billion shares of Oracle, which means if that gain held in regular trading, his holdings' value would increase $87.8 billion in one day.

Zoom out: According to Bloomberg's Billionaires Index, there are only 18 people on Earth, aside from Ellison, who are even worth that much to begin with.

If the day gets even slightly better for him, Ellison could pass Elon Musk to become the world's richest person.
Ellison's surge would pass a roughly $63 billion gain Musk reportedly saw in a single day last December, which until now had been considered the greatest one-day wealth increase ever.

What to watch: Whether the stock lives up to the hype.
