Single-ticket purchases to professional sporting events have steadily increased in recent years, according to data from SeatGeek.
Why it matters: The ticket vendor says Gen Z and younger millennials are prioritizing "experience-first" spending habits, even if that means going solo.
State of play: SeatGeek ranked U.S. states by the percentage of single, resale ticket purchases to NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB games within each state and shared its findings exclusively with Axios.
Illinois and Washington, D.C., lead the nation in solo game-day adventures, with the highest share (20%) of single-ticket buyers.
By the numbers: Here are the national percentages of pro sports solo ticket sales since 2022, from the top of the year through mid-August each year.
2025 — 13.3% of sales
2024 — 12.4% of sales
2023 — 11.2% of sales
2022 — 10.3% of sales
The bottom line: Some sports fans don't need company to cheer from the stands.
