Scoop: Dan Scavino takes over hiring in Trump's White House

Zoom in: Scavino succeeds Sergio Gor, whom Trump is nominating to be ambassador to India.

The backstory: Scavino got his start in Trump's orbit in the early 2000s by running one of the president's golf clubs.

• He was director of social media during Trump's first campaign, a role he also held during the first Trump White House. Among other things, Scavino ran Trump's Twitter account.

• He was one of the few aides to remain by Trump's side after the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol, and he worked on Trump's 2024 campaign.
• Scavino has been a White House deputy chief of staff in the current administration.

What's next: A source familiar with the hire says Scavino will "scrutinize the current staff and personnel changes that happen as the office transitions to a new leadership and structure."
