Lockheed and RTX ink multibillion-dollar missile deals

A pair of U.S. Air Force contracts are expected to bolster stateside and foreign inventories of air-to-air, air-to-ground and ship-sinking missiles.

Why it matters: The deals are worth $7.8 billion total.

Lockheed Martin secured $4.3 billion, while RTX nabbed $3.5 billion.
Both were announced July 31.

Follow the money: The arrangement with the former, the world's largest defense contractor, is for Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff and Long Range Anti-Ship missiles. The arrangement with the latter is for Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air missiles. It's the largest in the program's history.

Zoom out: Lockheed's deal involves foreign military sales to Finland, Japan, the Netherlands and Poland. RTX's includes sales to more than a dozen countries, including Israel, Taiwan, Ukraine and the U.K.

Both deals notably involve NATO allies.

Context: Governments are sweating stockpile levels.
