A New York City police officer, a chief executive at Blackstone and a security guard were among the four victims who lost their lives in Monday's Manhattan shooting.
The big picture: Police are still investigating the motives behind the shooting, as more details about the victims are being released.
- Four people were killed, a fifth person was injured, and the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
- "We lost four souls to another senseless act of gun violence," New York City Mayor Eric Adams said on Monday.
Context: The suspect, 27-year-old Shane Tamura, was believed to be targeting the NFL office but mistakenly went up the wrong elevator bank, Adams said.
Didarul Islam, NYPD officer
Didarul Islam was a New York Police Department officer and a Bangladeshi immigrant.
- He is survived by his wife and two children. His wife is pregnant with their third child.
- The 36-year-old officer had served with NYPD for three and a half years.

Wesley LePatner, Blackstone real estate executive
Wesley LePatner was Blackstone's global head of Core+ Real Estate and the chief executive officer of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust.
- She joined Blackstone in 2014 after more than a decade at Goldman Sachs and received a bachelor's degree in history from Yale.
- She also served on the board of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among other organizations.

Julia Hyman, Cornell graduate
Julia Hyman worked for Rudin Management, the owner of the Park Ave. building where the shooting occurred, according to Cornell University.
- The Manhattan native graduated in 2020 from the Cornell Nolan School of Hotel Administration, per a statement from the college.
- "We are devastated for Julia's friends and family," said university president Michael Kotlikoff, who noted her sister was also a graduate of the school.
Aland Etienne, security guard
Aland Etienne was a security guard at the building where the shooting occurred and a union member.
- "Every time a security officer puts on their uniform, they put their lives on the line," 32BJ SEIU President Manny Pastreich said in a statement.
- "Their contributions to our city are essential, though often unappreciated. Aland Etienne is a New York hero. We will remember him as such."
