Exclusive: Booker taps campaign veteran to run press shop

• Bergstein is joining Booker's office as communications director.
• Booker is also promoting Jeff Giertz to staff director of Senate Democrats' Strategic Communications Committee. Giertz was formerly Booker's communications director.
• And Maya Krishna-Rogers, who most recently served as Booker's deputy communications director, is being promoted to senior advisor.

Between the lines: Bergstein's experience also includes stints at the Democratic National Committee as well as with House Democrats and state-level Democratic officials.

Zoom out: Booker is seen as a talented communicator, and in his leadership role this Congress has tried to supercharge Senate Democrats' messaging strategy, particularly on social media.

• A top takeaway from the autopsy of the party's 2024 losses was that Democrats lost the messaging battle to Republicans.
• Booker, and others, have endeavored to close that gap. That includes a more aggressive approach on social media and more interactions with content creators and podcasters.
