Man killed after shooting at Border Patrol facility in Texas

A man who opened fire at the entrance of a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, early Monday was fatally shot by law enforcement officials, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The big picture: Two officers and a Border Patrol employee were injured as the 27-year-old man shot dozens of rounds at the building.

Driving the news: Ryan Louis Mosqueda, armed with an assault rifle and carrying a utility vest, was identified as the suspected shooter, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez told reporters.

"Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter," a DHS spokesperson told Axios.
The gunman, who did not enter the building, had other weapons and ammunition in his car parked in the station's lot, the police chief said.

Zoom in: All three people who were injured, including one who was shot in the knee, were taken to the hospital, per DHS.

The shooting took place across the street from McAllen International Airport, which was shut down as a precaution.
A motive for the shooting was not immediately clear and an ongoing investigation is being led by the FBI.
The McAllen Police Department did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.
