New York, Illinois governors dare Trump to arrest them over immigration policies

• New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker both also said Trump's deployment of the National Guard in LA undermined local law enforcement.

What they're saying: "If Tom Homan comes to Albany to arrest me, I'll say go for it," Hochul said.

• "Anything threatening our responsibility is an assault on our democracy," she added.
• "I have the highest duty to protect the people of my state, and indeed, if Tom Homan were to come to try to arrest us, me, rather, I can say first of all that he can try," Pritzker said.
• "I can also tell you that I will stand in the way of Tom Homan going after people who don't deserve to be frightened in their communities."
• "Threatening arrest on elected officials, congressman, it doesn't help any of us," Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said.

• Homan previously said he wouldn't rule out arresting Democratic officials who impede law enforcement or harbor undocumented immigrants.

• Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan last month was charged by the FBI with allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant avoid arrest. She pleaded not guilty.

State of play: Republicans during the hearing criticized the Democratic governors for fostering violent crime via sanctuary policies.

• The governors emphasized decreasing crime rates in their states and said that they've collaborated with ICE in criminal cases.
