Top Colorado court lets climate lawsuit against Exxon, Suncor proceed

What they're saying: City of Boulder Mayor Aaron Brockett said in a statement after the ruling, "This ruling affirms what we've known all along: corporations cannot mislead the public and avoid accountability for the damages they have caused."

The other side: Exxon said in a media statement the company has "maintained from the beginning this case is meritless and has no place before a state court."

• Representatives for Exxon and Suncor did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.

Zoom out: The U.S. Supreme Court declined in January to intervene in a similar case in Honolulu, after Hawai'i's highest court reached a similar finding to the one in Colorado.
