Schumer calls for hate crime probe into fire at Pennsylvania governor's home

• Cody Balmer, 38, of Harrisburg, said in a call to Dauphin County 911 early Sunday that "our people have been put through too much by that monster," per the warrants.
• Before hanging up, he reportedly said: "You all know where to find me. I'm not hiding, and I will confess to everything that I had done."
• Balmer is accused of throwing homemade Molotov cocktails into Shapiro's home, where the governor and his family hosted a Passover celebration the night before. Balmer is jailed without bail.

Zoom out: Schumer, the top Jewish elected official in the U.S., said the reported statements from Balmer raise "raise serious concerns about antisemitic motivation."

• "Our federal authorities must bring the full weight of our civil-rights laws to bear in examining this matter," Schumer wrote in the letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi. "No person or public official should be targeted because of their faith, and no community should wonder whether such acts will be met with silence."
• Bondi told reporters on Wednesday that federal authorities are assisting with the investigation, saying "it is absolutely horrific" what happened to Shapiro.
