Ukraine's largest drone attack targets Moscow ahead of ceasefire talks

Ukraine launched a massive drone assault on Moscow Tuesday — its largest bombardment on the Russian capital of the war, officials said.

Why it matters: The attack underscores Kyiv's enduring aerial power as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. officials prepare to meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss terms of a possible ceasefire with Russia.

Driving the news: At least two people were killed and 18 others injured at a meat warehouse hit by a drone, Reuters reported.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said in a Telegram post that the bombardment was the biggest to target the Russian capital since the war began more than three years ago.
Russia's Defense Ministry said on Telegram that its forces had downed 337 Ukrainian drones across 10 regions of Russia, and had intercepted 91 drones over the Moscow region.

Flashback: This is not the first time Ukraine has targeted Moscow, though such attacks remain rare.

Ukrainian drones struck Moscow in August 2024, as well as several times in 2023.

The big picture: The strikes occurred hours before Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz were scheduled to meet with senior Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia.

Zelensky said on X Monday that he hopes the talks will yield "practical outcomes."
