The Trump bump becomes a Trump slump

By the numbers: The S&P 500 closed Tuesday at 5,775. That's lower than the 5,783 at which it closed on November 5, before the presidential election results were known.

• The Nasdaq Composite closed at 18,285, also now below its Nov. 5 closing level of 18,439.
• The stock market isn't just flat since Election Day. It's also down 4.3% since Inauguration Day, and down 6% from the high of 6,147 it hit on Feb. 19.

Between the lines: Some of the stocks that did best during the "Trump bump" have since fallen the most.

• Elon Musk's Tesla, for instance, is down 44% from the all-time high it set on Dec. 18. That marks the evaporation of some $540 billion in market value. (It's still up about 8% since Election Day, however.)
• Trump's own company, Trump Media and Technology Group, is down 32% since Election Day and down 42% since Trump's inauguration.

The bottom line: Trump loves to take credit when stocks are rising. When they're falling, however, he rarely mentions the stock market.
