Scoop: Senate Dem campaign chief expected to depart

Christie Roberts, the executive director of the campaign arm of Senate Democrats, is expected to leave the group after two election cycles in charge, multiple sources told Axios.

Why it matters: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) is set to become the next Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee chair, we scooped for you last month. She will have to find a new executive director to help win back the majority.

There will be a number of opportunities for the party to claw back Senate seats in 2026, with races in North Carolina, Maine and Texas.

The big picture: While it's not unusual for there to be turnover at the DSCC, Roberts oversaw two cycles that were largely seen as successful for Senate Democrats.

The DSCC has posted prolific fundraising numbers of the last two cycles, giving the party a leg up on Senate Republicans in that department.
In addition to the 2024 cycle, Roberts oversaw the group when Senate Democrats held their majority in the 2022 midterms.
It is rare for a DSCC director to helm the group for more than one cycle, and sources tell us it took some convincing to get Roberts on board for a second election year.
The DSCC declined to comment for this story.
