The White House is expected to request over $98 billion in disaster relief funds from Congress on Monday, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: The emergency request from the White House comes as Congress must address a government funding lapse at the end of the year.

Around $40 billion of the overall request is expected to be for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
