What we're watching: A star-studded opera, a British spy thriller reboot and a holiday short film inspired by a true story.
"Emilia Pérez" available now on Netflix
The intrigue: Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez star in this operatic musical about a Mexican cartel boss who enlists a lawyer to help fake their death so they can transition and live as a woman.
What we're watching: After winning awards at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Jacques Audiard's film could be a Golden Globe and Academy Awards candidate this winter.
"The Day of the Jackal" available now on Peacock
State of play: Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch ("Captain Marvel") star in this spy thriller reboot where a lone assassin known as "the Jackal" (Redmayne) is chased across Europe by "Bianca" (Lynch), an MI6 agent.
What they're saying: "[The show has] clearly been written and was produced by people with great admiration for the original source material," Redmayne told Axios.
- "It's set [in the present] and the characters are incredibly different, but there's homage and there are Easter eggs and there is a sense of love for the original."
"An Almost Christmas Story" available Friday on Disney+
Zoom in: Jim Gaffigan, Natasha Lyonne and John C. Reilly star in this animated short film about a young owl and a little girl who are both lost. Together, they embark on a journey to find their parents.
Behind the scenes: This film is inspired by the true story of a tiny owl rescued from New York City's Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in 2020.
"Dune: Prophecy" on Max
- Taking place 10,000 years before the events of "Dune," this series inspired by the "Sisterhood of Dune" novel tells the origin story of the Bene Gesserit. Available Sunday
"Hot Frosty" on Netflix
- Dustin Milligan ("Schitt's Creek") plays a hunky version of "Frosty the Snowman" in this new holiday rom-com. Available now
"Larger Than Life: Reign of the Boybands" on Paramount+
- Members of *NSYNC, 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys, Hanson, New Edition, New Kids On The Block and The Osmonds are featured in this film about the evolution of boy bands. Available now
"Silo" season 2 on Apple TV+
- Steve Zahn ("Rescue Dawn") joins the star-studded cast of Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Robbins and Common for the second season of this sci-fi drama. Available Friday
"Cross" on Prime Video
- Aldis Hodge ("Black Adam") stars as the titular D.C. homicide detective in this new series based on James Patterson's books. Available now
"It's All Country" on Hulu

"Style Me for Christmas" on BET+
- Raven Goodwin ("Grotesquerie") and Mario star in this rom-com about a struggling boutique owner who falls for her famous client as he tries to shed his playboy reputation. Available now

- This documentary examines the chaotic 1960s through the lens of Elvis Presley's career and his iconic live comeback television special in 1968. Available now
"Say Nothing" on Hulu
- This limited series is based on Patrick Radden Keefe's novel about the abduction of a widow and mother of 10 during the political conflict in Northern Ireland known as "The Troubles." Available now
"Landman" on Paramount+
- Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore and Jon Hamm star in this new series based on the "Boomtown" podcast, about strivers seeking wealth among the oil rigs of Texas. Available Sunday
"Sprint" season 2 on Netflix
- The second installment of this docuseries follows runners including Gabby Thomas, Noah Lyles and Shericka Jackson during the 2024 Olympic Games. Available now
"Call Me Ted" on Max
