Lisa McClain beats out Kat Cammack for House GOP conference chair

Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) is set to replace House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) as the chamber's No. 4 Republican.

Why it matters: McClain will be the highest-ranking new face in House GOP leadership, with the top three leaders all staying in their roles and the party poised to maintain its majority.

McClain prevailed over Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) in the race to replace Stefanik, whom Trump tapped to serve as the next ambassador to the United Nations.

The big picture: McClain and Cammack had just days to make their pitch to the conference as to why they should play a leading role in crafting the House GOP's messaging.

McClain currently serves as conference secretary and touted her work to flip critical swing seats in Michigan.
