Amazon attracting football fans with concert livestreams

Fans who watch the Super Bowl for the halftime show don't have to wait until February to see hot music acts perform on a grand stage.

The big picture: Performances on "Amazon Music Live," which airs following "Thursday Night Football" on Prime Video, have grown in scale since the program launched in 2022.

Driving the news: The streamer's monthly viewership has been boosted by "Thursday Night Football," according to recent data from Nielsen.

The intrigue: Acts have included A$AP Rocky, Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, GloRilla, Jelly Roll, Big Sean and Halsey.

Big Sean's set last month was accompanied by the band and choir from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, a tribute to Homecoming at HBCUs.

What they're saying: "Sports and music go hand in hand. People want to experience music live, and if you can't be there, the next best thing is watching a livestream because people want to be a part of the conversation immediately as moments happen," Kirdis Postelle, global head of content at Amazon Music, tells Axios.

My thought bubble: I watched the Big Sean concert in person and clips of the livestream and was pleasantly surprised that the show lasted the length of a typical concert.

The setlist was about 10-15 songs, and the Detroit rapper brought out a few special guests like Jhene Aiko, YG and E-40.

What's next: Upcoming concerts include Latin music star J. Balvin, Atlanta rapper Gunna and K-Pop girl group Twice.
