Horror fans and Halloween party hosts, these are the terrifying titles available to stream this October on Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, Apple TV+, Prime Video and Max.
What we're watching: Horror, thriller and suspense from "Dracula," "Ghostface" and "Coraline" to paranormal mysteries and true crime.
The classics
"Dracula (1931)" on Prime Video
- This pioneering horror film is streaming until Nov. 1.
"The Birds" on Netflix
- Legendary director Alfred Hitchcock produced this thriller about a San Francisco socialite who visits a nearby coastal town overtaken by homicidal birds.
"I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)" on Peacock
- The latest: Freddie Prinze Jr. will reprise his role as Ray Bronson in an upcoming sequel.
"Scream (1999)" on Max
- Wes Craven's iconic slasher film includes an impressive list of stars including Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, Drew Barrymore, Jamie Kennedy, Liev Schreiber and Henry Winkler.
New horror flicks
"The Deliverance" on Netflix
- This film starring Andra Day, Glenn Close, Mo'Nique and Omar Epps is based on the accounts of Latoya Ammons and her family, who claim to have been victimized by paranormal activity over two years.
"Mr. Crocket" on Hulu
- A mother embarks on a journey to track down a mysterious children's show host who magically emerges from televisions to kidnap children and slay their parents.
"House of Spoils" on Prime Video
Academy Award-winner Ariana DeBose stars in this psychological thriller about a chef whose new farm-to-table restaurant is sabotaged by the spirit of the building's previous owner.
"Hold Your Breath" on Hulu
- Sarah Paulson and Ebon Moss-Bachrach star in this horror flick about a 1930s Oklahoma town threatened by a creature that lives among the dust storms.
Family-friendly
"Hocus Pocus 2" on Disney+
- Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy reprised their roles as the Sanderson sisters in a sequel released almost three decades after the 1993 cult classic.
"Corpse Bride" on Max
- Driving the news: Horror pioneer Tim Burton, who released this animated musical in 2005, was recently honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
"Coraline" on Tubi
- Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher and Keith David star in this horror fantasy about an 11-year-old girl who discovers (and then has to escape from) an alternate reality hidden inside her home.
True crime
"Woman of the Hour" on Netflix
- In her directorial debut, Anna Kendrick also stars in this film based on the story of Rodney Alcala, the serial killer who appeared on "The Dating Game" in 1978.
"Out There: Crimes of The Paranormal" on Hulu
- From UFOs to covens and ghosts, the team behind "Sasquatch" takes you inside eight true crime cases with paranormal connections.
"Unsolved Mysteries" Season 5 on Netflix
- This series returns to examine a new slate of mysteries from around the country including the Roswell UFO incident.
Scary limited series
"Grotesquerie" on Hulu
- Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance and Travis Kelce star in this 10-episode drama series about a nun and detective who collaborate to solve a series of eerie crimes in their community.
Coming up
"Before" on Apple TV+
- Billy Crystal stars in this 10-episode thriller about a child psychiatrist's encounters with a mysterious patient while dealing with the recent loss of his wife. Available Friday
