Cubans warned against blackout protests

State of play: More than half of the island has been without electricity since Friday, when authorities acknowledged the largest power plant collapsed and power would be restored gradually.

• The island has been struggling with a lack of fuel for the past year, with the situation made worse by how dilapidated much of the grid is.
• Authorities have tried to pin all of the blame for the lack of maintenance on the economic effects of the U.S. embargo.

Cubans have been making their discontent heard through cacerolazos, the banging of pots and pans.

• They say they're fed up, "as if there isn't already a lot of stress from living here," 28-year-old Yaima Valladares told French news agency AFP.
• Others, like 56-year old laborer Adismary Cuza, say they're worried the little food he had will be lost there is no power for his refrigerator. 

Díaz-Canel warned in a public broadcast that the government will not tolerate any conduct seeking to "undermine the Revolution" from people he claims are "acting under orders" from abroad.

• He said "everyone caught in such acts will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law," creating fears of new mass detentions.

What we're watching: Even as power was restored to part of the island yesterday, Cubans are also facing the onslaught of Hurricane Oscar, which made landfall late Sunday as a category 1 storm and has killed at least six people.
