Pelosi says some "haven't forgiven" her for pressuring Biden to drop out

Driving the news: Pelosi told the Guardian's Jonathan Freedland on the "Politics Weekly America" podcast that she thinks "there may be some people around him who haven't forgiven me for my role."

• "But in any event, we just have to win the election," she added.
• Pelosi said she and Biden have been friends for decades, and she has "the greatest respect" for him, calling him "one of the great consequential presidents of our country."
• But, she continued, "I think his legacy had to be protected" and "I didn't see that happening in the course that ... the election was on."

Worth noting: Biden's campaign aides are now largely a part of Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign.

• Pelosi endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee after Biden stepped aside.

What she's saying: "Elections are decisions," Pelosi said. "You decide to win. I decided a while ago that Donald Trump will never set foot in the White House again as president of the United States or in any other capacity."

• "So when you make a decision, you have to make every decision in favor of winning, and the most important decision of all is the candidate and the campaign of that candidate," she said.
• Asked if she felt Biden couldn't win, Pelosi said, "I thought his campaign that they were on couldn't win. He might have won. But they had to change what was happening, and he decided that change would be his stepping aside."
