Eric Adams asks federal judge to investigate alleged DOJ leaks

• "Only three groups of people could have known the indictment had been returned at the time it was leaked to The Times: the prosecution team, the grand jurors and court staff who processed the then-sealed indictment," Spiro said.
• Of those, he added, only the prosecution team would have known about the government's plan to announce more details the following day.

State of play: "Given the government's refusal to police its own misconduct, the Court must intervene to protect the Mayor's pretrial and trial rights, preserve the integrity of the judicial process," Spiro wrote.

• He said "appropriate remedy" could include dismissal of the indictment or suppression of evidence.

Context: Adams was indicted on Sept. 26 on bribery and fraud charges and pleaded not guilty.

• Prosecutors said he sought and accepted benefits from wealthy foreign individuals and at least one Turkish government official dating back to when he served as Brooklyn borough president.
• The indictment also alleges that he received illegal campaign contributions.
