Train derailment delays Amtrak routes to and from NYC Penn Station

• A set of wheels derailed while Train 133 departed from Penn Station at 2pm ET, Amtrak spokesperson Jason Abrams said.
• Part of the train was still at the platform, and passengers quickly and safely departed the train.

State of play: Passengers can receive email or text notifications about train delays by signing up at Amtrak.com/DelayAlerts.

• Passengers can also monitor service information on Amtrak's X accounts for the Northeast Corridor and other routes.
• Delays decreased to 20–30 minutes by 4pm ET on Wednesday.
• "Customers with reservations on affected trains will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day," Amtrak said.

By the numbers: Each of Penn Station's 21 tracks are in use about every two minutes, per Amtrak.

• The station serves more than 630,000 passengers on 1,345 trains per day.
