Exclusive: Schumer's new Michigan ad on abortion rights

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's super PAC will launch a new ad focused on abortion in battleground Michigan this week, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: Schumer will continue to lean on abortion rights as a top issue as he scraps for his Senate majority.

The 30-second spot hitting Detroit airwaves on Thursday is part of a more than $17 million fall ad blitz in the state from Schumer's Senate Majority PAC.
It focuses on a woman who needed an abortion to save her life and dings former Rep. Mike Rogers, the Michigan GOP Senate candidate, for his past support of restrictions on abortion.

The big picture: Schumer is trying to get Democratic Senate nominee Rep. Elissa Slotkin across the finish line in Michigan, which is one domino in his long-shot bid to remain majority leader.

But the polling for Slotkin has been encouraging. She leads Rogers by 5 points in a poll from Quinnipiac University released on Wednesday.
