Emmy Awards sees ratings rebound with 6.8 million viewers

Around 6.87 million people watched the 76th annual Emmy Awards on ABC Sunday, the highest audience in three years, per Nielsen figures.
Why it matters: Sunday's show drew 54% more viewers than the 75th Emmys on Fox in January. That show, delayed due to last year's dual Hollywood writers and actors strikes, drew 4.3 million viewers, an all-time low.
The big picture: Award show viewership broadly has clawed back following pandemic-era lows.
- Viewership for the Oscars, Golden Globes and Grammys all hit four-year highs earlier this year.
Zoom in: The star-studded event, broadcast live on ABC from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, saw FX's drama "Shōgun" broke the record for the most Emmy wins (18) for a single series.
Zoom out: The Emmy Awards returned to ABC this year after airing on Fox last year, NBC in 2022 and CBS in 2021. The show rotates between the four major broadcast networks every four years.
- Sunday's showing was viewed by 8% more people than ABC's last Emmys telecast in 2020.
