Trump said he had "every right" to interfere with 2020 election

• "It's so crazy that my poll numbers go up. Whoever heard you get indicted for interfering with a presidential election where you have every right to do it," Trump told host Mark Levin. "You get indicted and your poll numbers go up."
• Trump has been convicted in one of the four criminal cases he's faced since 2023. The three other cases against him have either stalled or been dismissed.

Zoom out: Smith's new indictment Tuesday came after the Supreme Court's summer ruling that presidents have immunity for "official acts" severely undercut the original indictment filed in August 2023.

• The new indictment "reflects the Government's efforts to respect and implement the Supreme Court's holdings and remand instructions," per the special counsel's office.
