"They just peddle bulls**t": Gina Raimondo on Republican economic policies

• "When I took office — first Democrat elected governor in a couple of decades — I inherited one of the worst economies in the country," Raimondo said on the DNC stage Monday.
• "It was a mess," she added. "But we got to work and we turned it around. We turned it around with a pro-business, pro-worker agenda. Kamala Harris has that same agenda."

Zoom in: Asked by Axios' Hans Nichols on Tuesday what aggravates her the most about the Republican Party now, Raimondo said, "They just peddle bulls**t."

• She continued: "They claim to be the party of the economy. You explain to me how Trump's proposal to put tariffs on everything, which is like a 10 or 20% sales tax on everything, is good for the economy."
• It would start a trade war with China and hurt businesses, Raimondo said.

• "We want to increase manufacturing, so we're going to put a tariff on inputs to manufacturing? It's baloney," she said, calling it "fantasy math."
• Representatives for the Republican National Committee did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.

The intrigue: Asked if she's ever going to run for president, Raimondo took a long pause before saying, "Kamala Harris is going to be our next president."
